Hello Moushegh and welcome. Not a big fan of straight Merlot myself. Mondavi Private Selection is an ok intro wine but in the end it is still a mass produced bulk wine. If you find yourself into Merlot, ask your local shop if they have anything interesting in the same price range. I bet they will steer you to something good. Also, read back the posts in the Merlot forum for ideas and again, welcome.

The Mondavi was on sale for 8 dollars a bottle, so I figuered I'd give it a go.

In my opinion it is, alright, nothing that jumps out at you, i.e., no particular flavors or aromas, just a simple basic Merlot. I suppose it wasn't "bad" for the price but nothing that I'd pour for an occasion.

Thank you for the reply and the welcome, Glass a Day.

There's also some Cab Sauv and Syrah in the blend, so not a straight Merlot.

Ahhh, didn't know that.
I thought it was a bit "flat" (unlively) for a straight Merlot.

Benziger is great Merlot for around that price if you can find it. (Not to be confused with Benzinger.)
