Barossa Valley, Australia
Had already purchased this wine when I saw it listed among Stevebody's favorite red and white Australian wines.
14% alcohol I paid $29.99 in DC shop.
dark red/purple, opaque; leaves purple "mustache" around the mouth
nice, fragrant bouquet that is hard to pin down--dark fruits probably and almost flowery in that it seems perfumed (but not feminine) if that makes any sense.
Initial taste didn't live up to the bouquet, but it needs to sit out for at least an hour.
Grippy, with tannins, spices on the tongue tip and under the tongue, spiciness noticeable on the finish. After an hour of breathing time the tannins and spiciness a little more subdued. Stands up to strip steak. I would judge that it is quite extracted. Some sediment as I neared the bottom of the bottle. I'm not sure I would buy it again at $30 a bottle, but I would not turn it down if someone else is buying!

Hi WOW. I think I've posted on Cimickys' 95 Shiraz somewhere as it' been a favorite of mine for the last 18 mos. This guy make some super juice. Haven't opened any of the 99s or 2000 yet Will give them some more weathering as the 95 is still 3-6 before peaking. WW

Just did a search and found your note, from 2001, on the 1997 Cimicky Shiraz. You also noted the purple stains and sediment. Guess I opened the 1999 far too soon. I liked it, didn't love it, but might have liked it better after some aging.

The 95 is coming around. Think Cimicky needs at least 10 to show its' trus colors. WW
