Working my way through a bottle of this Hawkes Bay chard at the moment... a wine we actually sell at the bar I work occasionally. There it's the "second tier" chardonnay, after the 2002 Church Road. (At work, the Delegats is going for NZ$6 a glass. The bottle set me back NZ$16 retail.)

The extra couple of years in the bottle has been kind to it... rich, mouthfilling drop, buttery texture and a very nice aftertase of... banana, oddly enough. Probably almost at it's peak about now, although there's a little acidity lingering that might help it go another year. (Not this bottle though... I'm enjoying it just fine as it is.)

Skeeters Tasting Notes Say: "A chardonnay, ma,am? Might I recommend the Delegats?"

I can see her, eyes fluttering, say in response, " Of course you handsome devil you, Pour Quickly ".

Nahh, you're hearing things. I'm dealing with tourists, mainly and what they USUALLY say is "No, whatever the house wine is will be fine."

That's usually the point I bop them on the head with a cocktail shaker in sheer frustration.

Discovered the bar is now stocking the '01 version of this today. The boss allowed a quick tester sniff-and-spit... Just as good as the '00, methink, if not better. (I'll have to pick up a bottle for, umm... "research purposes", methinks.)

Still has that banana-like aftertaste, still rich, buttery and more-ish. Keep 'em coming, Delegats!
