Just reached into my magic hat and pulled out:
1998 Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot Nuits St. Georges 1st Cru,
for my wine list...basically on rumors, any comments on this particular wine or producer? Burgundy could almost be Mars for me....

Summa, I don't know the producer. Nuits St. Georges is well respected for its red wines. Nuits tends to be a little cheaper than the big names in the Cote D'Or, such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanee. It does not have any Grand Cru vineyards, though the "Les St. Georges" vineyard is some times mentioned as a contender in the event the authorities considered recognizing more Grand Crus.

Nuits wines tend towars muscle and tannin rather than finesse. There's a certain iron/minerally note that is quite common and is a signature of the village for me.

'98 is somewhat controversial, with some reviewers, chiefly Parker/Rovani, saying overly tannic and likely to dry out. Others think it is a good vintage, low yields giving density and concentration to support the tannic structures. I've had a couple (no Nuits, though), liked them, and think that the good vintage people are probably right.

Between the vintage and village characteristics I would expect C-C Nuits 1er Cru to be fairly tannic and wanting some bottle age. As this is Burgundy, however, anything is possible. You would be wise to try a bottle before buying in quantity.
