2002 Failla Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Decanted for 30 minutes before 1st pour and throughout evening. A somewhat cloudy garnet color, with a profound maraschino cherry nose and entry, soft texture, and a bit of acidity to hold the finish together. Despite the dense cherry fruit, there was little else there. I'm not disappointed in it, but it wasn't making our Pinot faves of the year list. Alc. 14.4%. Anne bought it for $30 at Vintage Wines in San Diego last year. My only bottle -- I have an '01 Hirsch Vineyard from Failla that I'm sitting on for a few more years. Continues my exploration of Sonoma Coast. I have to say that while I don't dislike the oft-maligned "Syrah Pinots" from the CC, I prefer what the folks up in Willamette are doing with the grape. Just a personal preference.

For the most part I prefer Oregon and Russian River Valley (Sonoma) Pinot Noirs but I have fallen hard for a few from Carneros also. (and of course Burgundy)
