This is the cheapie version of Rothschild.

Wine cork opened up with hope. Wine poured out with aged color but nothing too bad. Wine was not corked, nosed like an old bordeaux.........but wine tasts like herbal tea....and also flat and lifeless....struggled to come back a bit but man this one is over the hill!!!!

Eng ole pal this is a wine that is produced to be consumed on Tuesday. Not an ager and plays heavily on the Rothschild name for sales. WW

I picked these up just for fun .....I should've guessed...

Man, these must have been the best cellared versions of these wines ever!!! I mean perfect labels, high fill levels, great cork, no damage to the cap, etc,...impeccable bottle..... hehehe...the contents were however as you noted WW, should've been consumed 17 years ago.... ....ahem.... I got two more bottles .... anyone interested??

There is probably a lot of bottle variation on those bottles. After 15-20 yrs bottle variation becomes greater greater.

DJ the variations you refer to are confined to good chateaus from a fine vintage. As stated earlier this wine is the equivalent to a Sutter Home Cabernet that is made to be drunk on release. The only variation in these would be from terrible to horrible. WW

DJ,...no worries here. it was kinds fun.

BTW by way of intro, and KC may have already pointed this out. There are a few local legends and WW is one of those posters that has drank more than he has written...and he writes a lot....lots of wisdom in them words.

I've learned a lot on this site reading his stuff and many others. Overall this is one of the best sites period out there to learn. Nothing ever nasty like many sites out there. Great to explore and not feel like you've left a pound of hide (sp??)

Cheers! BTW, on my way back to Vancouver tomorrow and then Victoria again.....I will have had three trips to this city in one month......gawd.....why not Hawaiiiiiiiiiiii......wAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... Oh well, I guess I can't complain, I do really love Vanq.

Mike
