Tuesday nite in Vegas

at the Pamplemousse our normal group of guys (5) consumed the following bottles;
Decided to go for one of the stars of the evening rite outta' the chute, 1990 Gruaud Larose. Beautiful brite ruby with a center of deeper purple with no bricking. Huge nose that shows huge anounts of fruits, cedar box, spices, and earthiness. All hit the mouth with really kick-patootie intensity. Massive entry, weighty center and an almost (and coulda' been) the legendary 5-lapper finish. Maybe hit the Classic mark but will give it at least a 93. From here on the conversation was more on our personal lives so the notes are not quite as detailed. Next was another St. Julian the 1995 St. Pierre a 4th growth that I have only had one other vintage the 1982. Deep ruby with another appealinh nose. Had nice depth and the finish was close to a 4-lapper. At least 89/90. Next was a 3rd growth Margaux, 1995 Kirwan. Nice dark ruby. Seemed to be at or close to TTOIG. Nice silky entry with loads of fruit. Mature with a hint of vanillan oak melding in nicely with the spicy, flowery, cassis notes. Should score 90. Next was the Surprise of the nite the 1995 Smith-Haut-Lafite a Graves classified growth. Brooding almost purple still in the glass with a ruby rim. Nose was balanced between the fruits, and spices. Cassis, earth, cinnamon, and just enough funk for interest. Entry was smooth, lovely center and a solid 4 lapper. This balanced, elegant bottle of juice is close but will improve for another 5-8. 91. 1995 Canon was the next on the agenda. This Premier Grand Cru has finally started showing its' true colors. The last 2 bottles of this I had were disjointed but now the components seems to have come together. The nose was still slightly restrained but showed nice aromsas of fruits, cassis and herbs. Entry was solid, nice center and a 3&3/4 lapper finish. Seems to need another 2-4 to shed the last of its' tannins. A solid 88. The last wine was a 1995 Robert Craig Affinity. This closed the nite off nicely as it was perfect with the Creme Brulee with freah Strawberries. At this stage of the gaame we'da liked 2-Buck-Chuck. Good Company, Good food, Good wine. Life be GOOD! Great lineup but I wouldn't have thought one would pair well with creme brulee.
