We met daughter in Houston over the weekend and took her out for her birthday dinner to the Americas Restaurant, in the Galleria area of the city. I had a glass of this Chilean Cab with a small portion of tenderloin. Wow! Not at all like most other South American Cabs that I've tried; this one actually had structure and distinctive fruit, and was identifiable as a Cab. And a nominal $8 for the glass. Now I've got to try to find it in a local wine shop. (The tenderloin was excellent, too. I'd have sworn I was eating our own beef, but prepared with some sort of exotic Chilean spices.)

Found three bottles of the '98 on hand at the third shop I tried at the bargain price of $9.99 per. Label says it's made in the Maipo Valley of Chile. One of the three will be scratched tonight with leftover pot roast and mixed veggies.

Agree Hot-Pie. This is one of the better Chilean cabs along with the Barons' Escudo Rojo. WW

The C-M was nice with the pot roast, but its strong cedar and tobacco undercurrents overwhelmed the store-bought beef. It was much better with the Argentine cow that I had it with at the weekend. This wine needs a robust steak that's been grilled over a wood fire.

Argh! Two bottles were both corked last night! (See my rant.)
