1995 Clos Du Val Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve, Napa Valley, $65. This is an elegant, richly layered wine with black fruit, moderate but soft tannins, and balanced oak. Approachable now, but rewarded with a few years of aging.

1996 Villa Mt. Eden Cabernet Sauvignon, Signature Series, Mendocino Ridge, $52. Refined, a bit restrained currently, with beautiful red and black fruit, very well-integrated oak, and moderate but silky tannins. Lovely.

Are they any better than Karl Lawrence at half the price? Not IMHO. That is why Karl Lawrence is in my cellar and these are not.
