Popped open a bottle of 1990 Caymus for the occasion of our 2nd anniversary (I'd bought the wine on winebid.com a little over a year ago). In the glass, a red-brick color; on the nose, madeira notes. Oxidized. Not really drinkable.

So, I opened a 1987 Caymus (another winebid.com purchase from the same time frame). Different story altogether. Nice purple garnet color, in contrast to the reddish brown hues of the 1990. Typical mature cabernet nose of cassis and cedar. Aging gracefully; more elegant than robust. Medium-bodied, fruity entry, a streak of acidity, and a smooth, lingering finish, with supple tannins, as well as leather and tobacco notes. A nice wine.

Rad, I've never addressed this on the board but now's the time. Don't want to buy any wine period that I personally haven't had a hand in the provenance. Once any of the dudes have sold them suckers they are shipped howm-so-ebber to the dude whose credit cards have cleared. The 90 should still be closed-in, with a huge cherry, black fruit, cassis and all-around good cab stuff in copious amounts. What you describe Rad is a wine that was cooked in transit. WW
