I've been told that some wines are made with Sorbitol. Is this true? Is there any way to find out if a winery uses it?

Why is it use?

If there are wines made with Sorbitol I have never heard of them, and I would not understand why anyone would do such a thing. Probably wouldn't taste good either.

Funny thing, today, after I posted the above response, one of my suppliers tells me his company will soon offer a wine for diabetics--I'll bet that sucker is produced with Sorbitol! Strange but true...

Although I still cannot figure out how it is done. Grapes have natural sugar, and there generally is no need to add sugar. Maybe the grapes for a sorbitol wine are bio-engineered???
