Am looking at buying a working vineyard-Pinot Noir. What should the per acre cost average? Does anyone know an expert in the Sonoma area who could advise me re;: value? How will I know if the quality of the grapes and/or land is high, low,etc.? Thanks for the help. P.S. land is near the coast. Does this make a difference? Pinot Noir vineyards can be used for making several types of wines? Which is the easiest? Which is the most profitable? Thanks for the help.

For starters, from what I understand, land near the coast would benefit from the breeze coming off the ocean. The further from the coast you go, the less the breeze. You would have warm temperatures, but not cooked grapes since the winds would have a cooling effect on them.

I'll try to reach one of my friends out there in wine country, and see if we can't match you up with someone out there that knows the business. I'll e-mail with future info if I come across anything worthwhile.

Incidently, I don't know if your set on that specific area. There is also established vineyard property currently for sale in Oregon too. If you have an interest, I'll e-mail you on that one as well.
