Yes...a bit of infanticide.

This is a pretty large wine (or is that an understatement). Dark superripe fruit, jammy, dense, sweet, hint of spices and coco, almost port like in flavour density, but alcohol is noticeable (not obtrusive) throughout, at 16%....might wanna sit down. Having said that, mighty fine big wine that still seems to be in balance...though not all together at the moment.

2008 Tobin James, Dusi Vineyards, Paso Robles, Zinfandel ($38 list price but came with the fall 2010 club shipment; and 16% alcohol). We look forward to popping this each year and tonight was the night.

Despite the high octane it is still a very balanced wine perhaps from the 80 year old vines in the vineyard, and the skill of the winemaker. It gives you black fruit on the nose and upfront; more rich fruit and spice in the middle along with smooooth tannin. Just a lovely finish!

We matched it with loin ends teriyaki, grilled over charcoal and wild cherry chips; along with pilaf in turkey stock, and salad with the last tomato from our garden and dark red Romaine leaves from the same place, and some store bought stuff. Excellent dinner for a lazy Saturday night!

Tonight we enjoyed the '09 Dusi Vineyard which was as good as ever; we matched it with Rib Eye steak that we seared and finished in a 400 degree F oven, along with baked sweet potatoes, and a salad with our own vinaigrette dressing. Yum and yawn! Good night!

Destroyed the 2010 last night. Right up to par with previous vintages; simply wonderful. Matched it with loin ends Teriyaki (grilled over charcoal and cherry chips), sweet potato fries, and salad. Yum!
