1998 Greg Norman Limestone Coast Shiraz

Now I know why I took up golf.....to drink Greg's wines!
Beautiful opaque, rich dark black ruby color with an initial nose of oak only. After 30 minutes the oak retreated a little exposing mature plum and vanilla scents. Very full bodied and elegent, flavors of plum, bright cherry, chocolate, sweet vanilla and good pepper on the long finish. I really enjoyed this wine alone but would hesitate paring with food as I thought a little too oaky. It kinda reminded me of an overoaked Napa Merlot with some spice on the finish. Great effort though.

Had this again last Saturday with Filet Mignon, baked spuds and salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Paired well with the acidity from the dressing. A well crafted shiraz.

Drew, I've had this one too, and give it a solid thumbs-up.

Checked out this thread before popping a '98 last night. It gave me heart, and was rewarded. The wine was fully fleshed out and wonderful. Matched perfectly with BBQ'd country ribs. Thanks for the tip Drew.

I'm not sure of the vintage (probably was '98) but this was a popular wine at the Pinehurst Wine Festival last September.

I remember when first hearing that Greg Norman had his own line of wines I kind or chuckled to myself. Then I read a favorable write up in Wine Spectator and decide to give it a shot. I was surprised. I'm definitely no expert but this stuff is good.

Opened one 2 nights ago and was really disappointed. Mostly oak at this point with fading fruit. Recorked and opened last night. Seemed a little better with some spicy blackberry and pepper showing thru but this has evolved into an oak bomb.
