Wow! I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying the wines KC sent out from the Finger Lakes!! Popped the cork on this one and a smell of ripe peaches immediately filled the air. Same on the nose from the glass. First sip, not what I expected, but wonderful! Crisp peaches. After taste of, well only way I can describe it is a slightly underipe crisp peach. Color very pale yellow. 12% alcohol. Don't know what it cost. Great wine!

"Dr. Frankenstein?"

"That's FRONK-en-steen!"

Sorry, just had a slightly dyslexic moment while reading the name.

CCK, Dr. Konstantin Frank was a person; the doctor was a doctorate in agriculture I believe. He grew grapes in Siberia!

He is the man who brought vinifera grapevine growing to New York, producing (with the help of the now defunct Gold Seal Winery) the first ever successful crops and wines from Chardonnay and Riesling, in the 1960s. He died in 1985.

The Franks still operate the winery--his son and grandson.

We actually preferred the slightly off dry one to the dry one.

WW

At least we did not have to listen to story about the hybrids and the pigeons. Dr. Frank was a character--Willie carries the torch well!

CG, I prefered the dry Riesling--that's the one I bought--but I was impressed by the other wines at Konstantin Frank also--the off-dry Riesling, the chardonnays and the pinot noirs (although I don't think I would have purchased a pinot noir--not quite what I'm looking for but still a good effort). And I think Willi Frank said his father came from the Ukraine--that's not Siberia is it? (I'd always assumed they were from Germany).
I haven't opened my one bottle of the dry Riesling yet--will do so this summer and share my notes.

WOW, he could have come from Ukraine and worked in Siberia later. I'll check on it if it is important to you.

Opened my bottle of this (2003 Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling) last week.
12% alcohol, pale straw color, clear
Very attractive pear-like nose, lemony background note. Well-balanced fruit and acid, lingering finish, refreshing tartness. Very nice with my homemade Avgolemono soup (Greek chicken/rice/lemon soup).

The '04 (12% alc.; paid about $15 locally) was nice, with a pale straw color, a peachy nose, and vibrant green apple and citrus flavors. Nice acidity. Paired very well with a pumpkin soup made with coconut milk, lemongrass, and fresh ginger. Yum.
