Nice post but a tad incomplete. Having been under Jerrys' spell early in my wine adventures I realized the truth he wrote, spoke, and lived about wine. Not one to abilify pretentious snobs, he attacted them like a pirranah goes after fresh meat. A man on a mission and never varied from it as long as I knew him. WW

You're so right WW. He was fearless and couldn't abide snobs. What a guy. I loved the way he always ended his emails to me... He always wrote
"to be continued".

Tom's article brought back so many memories of the Wine Curmudgeon.

Curmy was responsible for a lot of we novices getting on the rite track in regards to the juice. Today most of the people writing on wine have an agenda,....money. As stated above he was more interested in the product than what the product could do for him. WW

I've been searching my files. Jerry once gave me a little card explaining his rating scale.... I can't find it, anymore, but it's here somewhere. I'll keep looking.

Speaking of agendas aka "money"; when I first met Jerry I had just been hired by a winery to sell 5,000 cases of Riesling within a given period of time. If I did so I would be paid a substantial bonus. To make a long story short I took it to Jerry, took him to dinner, drank the wine and offered him a stipend if he reviewed it favorably. His response: That is not the way I work. I will review it favorably only if I like it. And even if I do there is no money involved. Folks I can tell you stories about writers back in those days.

He reviewed it favorably and it flew out the door. All 5,000 cases in less than a month. I offered, he refused.
