I was pleasantly surprised by this wine too. No way near the end of life just yet, but not without flaws. First, hint of brett but not unpleasant, came off as a bit of sweat, earthy, meaty, hint of herbs, red fruit. On the palate, it was just an elegant wine, lithe and structured, with the acidity still flexing its muscles a bit. Nicely balanced wine, great persistence.

2010 Tobin James Tempranillo/Syrah James Gang Reserve. This one came in the Fall 2013 shipment from Tobin James; the list price was $48 per bottle. It gave blackberries on the nose and upfront; more fruit including plums, and a hint of smoky bacon in the middle; and a finish that goes on and on.

We matched over two nights with 1. Penne in our Italian tomato sauce, Italian sausages loaded with fennel, and salad; and 2. Cinco d'Mayo II tonight with beef tamales in our enchilada sauce, Mexican rice, cheese and shredded lettuce.

A lot of people oh and ahhed at this wine. I have never bought this due to its price. This is not a cheap white.

So I was kinda looking forward to tasting it too. So? It was okay. I don't drink a lot of Albarino but I like this crisp light wine which has a nice aromatic nose. This was frankly unrecognizable to me as an albarino. It was too dense, too thick, oaked and too ripe. I mean it is not a poorly made, wine. It was well made, it just was not an Albarino to me.

Probably will be my favourite wine of this trio one day. Except that at 17 years old, it is still so tightly wound and over the cours of 6 hours, really refused to show itself in its entirety...or at least that is my impression.

Darkest of the three wines, most reserved nose, though stil a wonder full wine to drink, there is more there. Dark fruits, some spices only hint at what is being masked. A bit funky, earthy, but only a bit. Will be massive one day. Gotta love it.

Probably showed the best of the three at one particular point but ends up being the second place wine of the night of the three in the vertical.

This one appeared to be a bit more resolved than the 94 or the very tight 96. Touch of residual sugar I suspect, nice red fruit but exotic nose, spices and floral, a hint of smoke. Insane nose. On the palate, just a bit behind the 94, not as complete. Very long finish and very satisfying. by itself it would be a great wine.

Nose of dark fruit, spices, wood is totall integrated, earth and slight floral. Very smooth tannins, still very solid. nicely complex with lots of life still left. Consumed over 6 hours in a decanter and it held on very very solidly.

Holy @#$!@#% !!

It's been a while since I've had an older Spanish wine that was not trying to rock my socks off with volume. This thing did it with pure elegance and complexity!

Good fruit still but given a nice posture with the balancing acidity, lovely structure, a hint of savouriness, elegant and medium plus plus finish, but good persistence. Lovely stuff. Prices are starting to go up on these things. I was also told that they cannot continue to offer their library program anymore (too many people were paying the high prices but getting perfectly cellared bottles direct from winery).

I've got a few older Bosconia and even their whites which will be interesting to open.

It was a great time to check in on this wine. It is my first bottle of this and frankly no great rush to open the next one. In fact it was a bit of infanticide but considering the crowd this was opened with, this wine stood up spectacularly well.

Nose, while never shy, develops over time, first it was primary fruits, a bit of barnyardiness, funkiness, spicy and some licorice. On the palate, there is a great density of fruit, spices, very fresh still, tight and not all together entirely but made a good presentation of itself. Great length and good acidity for structure. Lovely and should have bought some more. Only one bottle left so will keep that one well hidden.
