Rarely do I get to experience a wine price increase where it went from affordable to unaffordable within my lifetime, not including the first growths, or crazy burgs like Roumier which were always expensive and now just crazy expensive. I'm talking about a wine that I could buy 6 years ago at $35 now being sold on the other side of $150, the Step Up wine at $60 now selling for $300+. The thing I hate most about this wine is that it is possibly one of my favorite wines in the world and one that is very hard to replace. This is the reality if you are a Clos Rougeard fan.

But it was a tough week......so I picked up a basic bottle to see how things were coming along.

On bottle opening, I noticed a slight funk on the nose, but this dissipated quickly. This bottle was consumed over a dinner lasting several hours amongst other wines. It just got better and better with time. There is no rush with this wine. Very complex, berries, green herbalness, a good earthiness and leather. Supremely balanced, an ethereal lightness of the tongue and a light silky smooth texture that is a hallmark of this winery for me. I loved this wine. This was a great bottle..... sign.....

I have been working my A$$ off. Sorry for disappearing on the board lately. Just changed jobs and I am drinking from the perverbial fire hose...but in a good way....is there not a perverbial wine hose??

Anyways, I was shown this bottle at a lunch recently. I knew very little about it except that it has quite a following. I was worried about the vintage...but holy moly,...what the hell is this thing. Beyond all expectations, this thing was a refreshing red, a bit light almost too..at least for the vintage, reminds me of a nice gamay from a nicely aged vintage but still fresh. I was impressed

I've always loved these bottles and have had other vintages. This one though, while nice, was not amongst the best of them. Perhaps not a great bottle. Nose was exceptionally mute for this wine, not reserved but muted. On the palate, it is much better, all the components there, orange, orange peel, apricot, acidity, etc, but it did not seem all together. Perhaps it was catch in a strange time but regardless, still a decent product.

I've always loved the wines from Huet. It remains to be seen whether I will like the ones that the new winemaker will put together but trust that Hwang knows what he is doing.

This is a pretty wine, in brand new glasses that I had just bought, it sparkles, light gold in colour, nose is still rather fresh with the acidity jsut peaking its head up. Palate of baked apples, pears, very good density of flavors and a decent zip. Just a hint of flabbiness to me, coming across as a lack of focus in the end but still a nice drink.

[attachment=19]I love this shop in the middle of the Ile du Citie, Paris located on a side street just north west of the western bridges that lead past the cafes. This store sells only a few things. Foie Gras, White Asparagus, this farm house Coteaux du Layon and bread. I love this place!!!!! I really do!!

Tonight I pulled out the last cannister of his Foie Gras and the last bottle of this village Coteaux du Layon that he sells. Lovely. The plastic cork probably was ok due to the fact that it was a sturdy Chenin Blanc beneath it. Simple, honey, bit of nutmeg?a bit rustic in the right way but not a bad wine at all. Worked GREAT with the Foie Gras and the duck Roulette that we had pulled.

Wow,

What an atypical wine from a producer that thinks he can manage climate.....okay I'm still angry at him...

But this is a unique wine. I thought it was an older riesling,....the very round mouthfeel, almost fat fruit, a bit low on acidity but not necessarily bad, some baked apples but no stewed fruit from the vintage, finishes just a bit hot.

Daughter of the owners is now working with the winery. She presented a number of current releases as well as a few others.

Started with the Petillant, the sparkling wine that is made byt Huet, at half the pressure of standard champagne...I was told. Clean nose, very fresh, minerals, bright and refreshing, slight honey minerals, light and vibrant....did not get vintage

2009 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Sec 2009 - Pure light gold in colour, nose is young and vibrant but with a certain density, apples, pears, l of youthful apples and pears, good density of flavors but with more acidity than I had presumed. Not as vervey as the 08's

2009 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Demi-Sec 2009: Appears to be a step up in refinement as well, nose is more together, pears, floral almost honeyed, with with good focus and elegance still. More dense on the palate but not overtly over the top sweet, Needs time to come together as it is still very tight

2008 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Demi Sec: slightly lighter and more elegant nose, more apricot than apple, smooth entry but with a higher acidity level.

2009 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Light honeyed nose, floral, fresh, on the palate, more density than the demi-sec but still not overtly heavy, youth and very tight still, again, needs time

1998 Le Mont Moelleux - some development but still a youngish wine, darker in colour, offering some honeyed toasted flavors in addition to its dense structure and good minerality. Showing well but could still take some more age.

1997 Cuvee Constance - deeper golden with brownish tint, some oxidative character of nuttiness, pickled veggies, good complexity lovely nose and nice long length.

Nice tasting.....headed off then to a Sandrone tasting....more tomorrow on that one.

12 % abv. Louis/Dressner Selections
My previous bottle of this wine tasted heat-damaged. This one was fine. I had a glass as an aperitif and a second glass wtih baked chicken breasts in a lemon-asparagus sauce with rice. Straw color with transparency. Possibly more lemon and less seashell and salinity than some Muscadets but pleasing. I think it paired even better with the chicken and lemon-accented sauce than it did the next night with mussels in garlic sauce. Not sharply acidic but holding its own--not tasting tired.

Interesting bottle to say the least. I read the reviews on CT before opening but none had been written in the last two years. Earlier notes that had identified the viscosity of this wine did not prepare me for when I poured it out.

The previous tasters were right, this thing pours out like engine oil. Deep golden and viscous, l was surprised at this when I poured it. The nose came out of the glass, seemingly being reserve on purposes, perhaps I had expected more from the sight of the wine alone.

Very Chenin in nature, deep brooding wine, suggesting tonnes of reserved power, I left it in the glass for 1 hour to air out a bit, which worked well. On the nose, orange marmalade, apricot, honey, crysanthanum, slight gritty minerals. On the palate, thick and super smooth, tasting much the same as the nose, in that order with the addition on the finish of good Pu Erh Tea. Then and only then does one recognize the structure and acidity that had been along for the ride all through that sip. Long finish and impressive. Perhaps not the best sweet Vouvrary but still impressive in its scale and seemingly not yet hitting its stride.
