Hi everyone,

I am new to the forums and figured this may be the place to come to ask a question and get my answer - I will be visiting Napa Valley in October and would love to visit the winery that made one of the best Cabs I've ever had.

Unfortunately, I have no recollection of the name ... All I remember is the label had a figure 8 knot - it was a beautiful full bodied Cab. I'd love if someone could help me with this!

Best,

En Garde Winery received multiple 90+ point scores from Robert Parker, one of the world's most influential wine critics and founder of Wine Advocate Magazine.

In December, Parker rated all five of En Garde's 2013 Cabernet releases with scores between 96+ and 92 points. These wines are made from premium Napa Valley fruit sourced from high elevation vineyards in Diamond Mountain and Mount Veeder.

The newly released 2013 Touché scored the highest with 96+ points. Parker described this wine as "a sensational…tour de force that should drink well for 25-30 years."

En Garde's Reserve Cabernet from Diamond Mountain – "Le Bijou du Roi" – was awarded 95 points and was explained as "stunningly full-bodied, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and long, rich finish."

I'm not a huge Parker fan but this is surely an honor for En Garde.

I've never been happy with Darioush wines. Since they opened, It was never a wine that agreed with me. An over the years, I would stop at the Pink lavish building with the columns out front and be disappointed year after year.

Well not sure what changes happened but what a change. This wine is excellent. Cannot hide the Napa exhuberance but it also showed bordeaux structure with fruits of blueberries, berries, etc,. This was going to be one fantastic bottle. We killed it a bit early but it was very nice to see at this point in its life.

Maybe I need to stop back at the pink building the next time I'm in Napa.

This has been stored i my cellar since release so it is now at the 10 year mark. Thought I'd pull one and see.

I love cab franc when done right, It's gotta have a bit of veg to it and this nose did give me however small a hint of it. It also showed some dark bramby fruits, and some dust. Wine was perfectly medium plus bodied, good structure, nice fruti still but the finish was marred by a hint of heat. Not too bad but jsut enough to make you notice.

Not a bad bottle for another cool New England evening.

I was so looking forward to sharing this bottle with friends and a good night came by recently where this could occur.

Some friends from the west coast came by and demanded to not be served no stinking european wine...... for those that know my cellar......this was not going to be easy...so out came this bottle

Great Cork. I turned the bottle to pour it into the first glass, The wine gracefully slipped out of the bottle, out of the deep sleep it had just been in, The color was this bright translucent but deep ruby with a hint of a mature bricking in it. It was mesmerizing for a minut. The nose was controlled but had strength. This things that hit you are the secondary notes of cigar, cedar, some bell pepper, pencil lead, then moving to the still opulent dark berries. This is a well aged full bodied wine, but extremely well balanced and with a good acidity, it remains quite fresh as well. The texture is lush but structured and the finish iingers. It's the texture that remains in your thoughts though as the last of that wine is poured out to impressed friends.

Medium purple, with a classic Napa Valley cab nose of dark fruits, spice and that wonderful perfume that comes from the expert use of French oak. This is a “wow” kind of wine: big and expanding in the mouth, but seamless. Well integrated tannins. Wonderful drinking now after a decant, but I think this will continue improving. For now, 93+ points -- with a pretty big potential upside.

I love Dominus but it is not a cheap wine. It is a bit of a ringer for bordeaux, only better than many!.

This vintage was a pretty decent one but the wines, as with most Dominus, are about balance first, not doubt primal in fruit, the nose says it all, but there is some herbiness in it, a bit of black olives, and a nice structure to hold it all up. There is no rush with this wine. Still a bit tannic and tight in fact.

Decanted 3 hours. Purplish black; opaque. Rich nose of dark fruit, roasted meat and violets. Big flavors of same plus a hint of tar. A strong entry and midpalate followed by a very long, expanding finish. Tannins are big but manageable. If tasted blind, I wouldn't have pegged this as a cab. Seems very much like a syrah. Not surprising I guess, given the producer. Really big wine, but remarkably balanced. Clearly this is just a baby, but is extremely drinkable now after a decant. I expect that with time this will put on a few more points and end up in the classic range. For now, 94+ points.

For those that are quite familiar with O'Shaughnessy, the slight change in style will be very evident here. This is not a bad thing as I'm assuming it was to get the best of a difficult vintage and this is by no means a bad wine.

It's just that the power of Howell mountain fruits is not front and center of this wine. In fact, it is a very elegant and sauve wine. Quite sophisticated even. The tannins are quite smooth, accompanied by red berries, cedar and tobacco, nicely integrated into each other. The texture is smooth and silky and there is quite a persistence. Well done for this vintage and was rather popular with the group
