This was a fine mature Bordeaux. Not looking for a ton and frankly over delivered. Color was bricking, nose was mature, elegant, secondary and some tertiary notes, fruit slightly hidden behind. On the palate, nice texture, medium body, good flavors, fruit, forest, still good structure, medium finish. This is a very good representation of a mature bordeaux at 20 years old.

Some of the 05's are starting to shake off their sleep and this is one of them that is showing well. Primary and fruit driven still, good structure adn interesting earthiness but quite forwqard,. Lush perhaps a bit short but still a very lovely drink that is starting to hit its stride. Not fully shed its tannins but nicely textured.

for the price it is a nice entry point into decent bordeaux from 2005.

This is the second time that I've had this wine and I've been fortunate both times, the bottles have been positively brilliant.

The first one came out of a cellar of a long time collector who could identify it on taste. The bottle was popped and poured. This time it was a single bottle gift from someone else. Popped and poured. Fully mature but still youthful fruit as the primary note, then followed quickly by cedar, earthiness, tobacco, and then you notices it's lush texture. Really lovely bordeaux, all that it is meant to be, the nose, the balance, the vibrancy still after all these years.

Certainly a bit softer now but the primary fruit and lush lush texture are completey rememberable. But there is no reason to wait.

Simply much much better than I thought. In fact so good I would not complain if this was the grand vin from a lesser year. All the attributes you want from a good bordeaux, the fruit density, red and dark fruit, graphite, violet, leather, minerality, and creamy texture. There is a good long persistence.

I get a sense that it was still in its slumber and would benefit from some time yet to stretch out. Not that it needs to be better, but it will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

I brought this bottle with me to Hong Kong and popped that night. I am usually very concerned about bottle shock and certainty this bottle showed that as it was more muted than others that I've had....but.

Still, what a bottle! True and classic bordeaux, even slightly muted, perhaps showed the balance a bit more, gravely, pure fruit, lush, perfectly assembled. This is a great bottle that will be like this for a long time. No no no rush at all......decades really! People did not realize that they were drinking a close to 20 year old wine.

Thought i'd check in on this wine. no rush, in fact a bit brooding tonight and tight, but still enjoyable. Very dark wine as is the fashion for these 2009's. Very classic and rather exuberant nose but still restrained, flormal, violets, etc. On the palate, quite deep in dark fruits, classic bordeaux markers of pencil lead, slight herbs, peppers and minerals. Quite lush still and will be better when it opens back up.

Let's call a spade a spade, this wine is on the decline and has seen better days, but yet it was still a compelling drink.

The wine still held onto some fruit, slightly sweet, not very complex, but elegant, nice tecture, moving to tea, meat and dried fruits. Medium finish, slightly acidic, but very pleasant indeed.

Second wine of Pichon Longueville, thought I'd look into this at the 6 year point. Interestingly, it was a bit closed down. Lush of the vintage but not as fleshy as I remember it to be. But still decent with good minerality for a second wine. Good long finish with a nice bit of lift from the acidity in the background.

Here is a cheap and cheery that did not break the bank. At $20ish a pop, it give some insight into slightly aged bordeauxs that are meant to be drunk sooner rather than later and this one was great at at that.

Ripe fruit up front, but with enough complexity (as in oak, minerality, some earthiness, candied fruits, smooth texture and resolved tannins. This is one of those Bordeauxs that go great with lunch sandwiches! Bought a six pack on the stop and it won't last.

For me, this was either a wine that had closed down a bit or a wine that won't ever sing. I think it is the latter.

Not that it is a bad wine. It's nicely made, smooth and lush, nicely appointed black fruits, great texture and decent structure, but lacking in the verticals, no real acidic lift, no soaring tea notes, no lifted fruit.

So a bit one dimensional and while well made, frankly a bit boring

I was looking forward to this wine. I tasted this wine at the winery a few years back and it was a fantastic, large scale, if a bit monolithic. So was excited to dig into this one. Nose was good, with good berries, tobacco, interesting, but the palate was less so, baby fat definitely gone, wine was a bit drying, dark fruits, medium plus bodied, still a nice drink, perhaps a bit high on the acidity, or maybe it was still shutdown. Will revisit in a few years.
