2012 Sheldrake Point, Finger Lakes, Gamay Noir ($16.00 U.S.; Alcohol level: 12.8%). This was a wonderful wine despite its light color. It was medium bodied with soft aromatics on the nose and upfront. It the middle we found dried flowers, and fresh red berries. It provided a lovely finish.

It had enough umph to match nicely with lamb burgers grilled over charcoal and pecan chips; Italian green beans, and a mini baguette. Yum!

Found out that the umph (or oomph if you will), came from a 15% shot of Syrah according to the winery's website.

It felt like fall today so out came this beaujoulais

Noise is just wonderful, with that for me typically slightly sweet red fruit and slight spicy nose, followed by dark red fruitst. On the palate its much the same, only with a good level of density, good minerality and freshness. Wines appears to have a solid core structure, as it evolved slowly over dinner. Thing was a very nice bottle, making me glad that I picked up six so I can revisit slowly for the next few years.

Haven't bought a Duboeuf Beaujolais in some time. Found this at Costco for $9.99 and went to it for din-din tonight of sausage and bow-tie pasta with peppers.

Better than expected, without the banana-flavored yeast that once characterized his wines. Nice familiar Beaujolais nose but darker in the glass than I expected, jammy on the palate without being syrupy, quite nice and light with a moderate finish. She liked it so I'll buy again. 13% alc/vol.

Went to this wonderfully intimate (read small) restaurant where we were met by the maitre di/waiter/sommelier/ etc. He sat us down at a two person table that was really two row tables that sat a total of 24 people for dinner. The only other employee of the restaurant was the Chef. The mean was wonderful. I had a pig's nose, crisped and then put into a terrine, cut back out in to a slice and then pan fried. The wine was our first 2010 Beaujoulais Nouvelle. It was simple and pleasant enough with typical Gamay spice.

The wine for dinner, which I had a wonderful pasta/froi Gras/lamb combo was just fab. The dinner wine was another beaujoulais, the 2008 Jean Foillard Morgon Cote du py. This turned out to be a really good call. Absolutely delicious and much cheaper than the burgs. A slightly lacqour tone, lightly toasted wood, but nice fruit nice structure and the typical gamay flavor profile. Loverly stuff!

I just tasted a half-dozen of Duboeuf's '09 cru. Definitely a good vintage (as reported), with a lot of fruit but plenty of balance and a good amount of heft for Gamay.

My favorites were the Julienas "La Trinquee," which was seriously fun but also had some depth and the Morgon "Jean Descombes" which was delicious but should hold up for quite a while.
The Fleurie "Quatre Vents" and Moulin A Vent "La Tour Du Bief" seemed less impressive to me. They were fine, but not as outstanding as the other two.
All wines between $15 and $20.

I found the 2009 vintage on sale at the grocery store for $9.99. Imported by Kobrand Corporation. 12.5% alcohol by volume. Deep ruby color with slight transparency. Juicy, very primary flavors--maybe some raspberry and blackberries in the mix. Not dainty, but appealing. Slight bit of tartness on the finish. Very good QPR. I had it with sloppy joes and another night with turkey and noodles. I was out for dinner two nights after opening the bottle, but it held up pretty well in the refrigerator, even on the fourth or fifth night.

13% alcohol. Deep purple-red color; nearly opaques. Rather a grapey note with some sharp spiciness on the tongue tip. Might improve with one or two more years in bottle. I was disappointed at first but it improved with some air. It became less grapey and evoked dark-skinned plums with mild tannins on the finish. Now I know why I purchased it after a tasting in Charlotte in April. Give plenty of aeration if drinking now or hold for a year or two.
I paired it with hamburger with diced onions, Worcestershire sauce and Swiss cheese on buttered and broiled hamburger buns and corn on the cob the first evening. Another evening I had it with beef taco.

Imported by Country Vintner, Oilville, VA. Labeled as 13% abv. (2007 Gold Medal at Concours des Grandes Vins de France, Macon)
Exhibits viscosity. Delicate, somewhat elusive nose that combines dark berries with violets. Light-bodied with refreshingly bright berry fruit. Perhaps raspberry comes closest to describing the flavor. Acid in balance with other components. IMO this tastest freshest and best the first night opened. I paired it with baked chicken one night and with deli thinly-sliced smoked turkey breast and mushroom bisque another night. Would buy again. I didn't realize I had already posted on this one.
Interesting that I got cherries back in November and raspberry this time and that it held up better the second and third night in November.
