The nose is full of dark fruit; ie- plum, black cherry, mullberry, faint hint of red cherry. The palate has much of the same with some espresso and black pepper. The finish is beautiful in flavor but lacking just a touch in length.

This bottle just arrived in MD and a friend picked it up for me while I was working. If I understood correctly, WS gave this wine a rating of 93. I haven't checked this out personally, so don't quote me on it. I wouldn't go as far as a 93, as it just doesn't have the finesse I want from a good Zin. (The other night, my wife and I had a bottle of the Hendry zin '03 and this one does not compare.) Of course, that could be because of the age. One year can do wonders. However, for the $15 I paid for it, I would love a half or full case. Unfortunately, I called the wine shop and they've already sold out. ONE day! That sucks.

It was in their top 100, and rightly or wrongly those tend to sell out quickly. A few years ago Foodie had a Gigondas in his shop that sold for $15 or thereabouts. He sold a lot of it, and we enjoyed several bottles. Then it made the top 100, and he couldn't get another bottle into the store.

...which provides just one reason behind my distaste for ratings and for the lemmings that come barreling over the hill based soley on ratings...
