This old vine zin is the real deal. Plenty of up-front berries, vanilla, and spicy notes but has the added plus of a first class clarets velvet mouthfeel, great center, and a strong 3&1/2 lapper finish. By far the best of the Renwoods so far and should get better with another 2-3 of cellaring. 89/89. 22 by the box

Sounds like a really good value, WW. Thanks too for your note about cellaring the Lytton Springs. Guess I won't worry too much about the fruit fading. I noticed on wines from Lytton Spring Winery (not the Ridge label) that the 1992 held up better than the 1993 IMHO.

That Fiddletown sends chills down my back but the real bruiser of that bunch is the Grandpere. Holy Cow, what a bottle of Zin!

I liked the description of the Fiddletown as a claret. That's it exactly. It's balance, grace, character and VALUE always come through. Thanks for bringing it up. I sample so much wine that I sometimes forget to go back to the tried-n-trues each vintage. Gotta order some of this stuff today...

SB Learned from the 97 to keep my grubbies off the Granpere for at least a year after tasting all of the other Renwoods. WW
