Went to the cellar to pull a 98 and by mistake pulled and opened this sucker. My very 1st foray into any of the 2001s'. Killer wine. Most of the vines used in this bottling were planted in 1912 by Freds' Grampa. Huge depth and concentration.Tons of black fruits, with raspberry undertones and cinnamon-vanilla in the background. This is about as balanced a zin as I've experienced and no doubt will improve for 10 easily. Lovely young wine. 93/95. 17 by the box on futures. WW

I may have to get on that mailing list if they are accepting new names. (Can't yet ship to NC from California wineries but I think the legislation may be coming.)

WOW I strongly suggest any zin lover to get on Freds' mailing list. The address is Scherrer Winery, 966 Tiller Lane, Sebastapol, Ca. 95472. WW

My how this hummer has shed the baby fat. Zinlicious nose that has everthing in proportion. Spicy, and earthy with a balance that is evident before your first sip. The palate has a full compliment of berries along with an impression of sweetness that is reminiscent of cinnamon toast. Bold entry, weighty center and a solid 4+ lapper finish. 94/95. (Will improve for at least another 1-4 and hold till the Enterprise returns. WW )
