We are about to harvest our first tomatoes from our patio plant and are looking for advice on what to have with them. I'm thinking just a tomato salad, with mozzarella and basil, do you think a Rioja or Chianti would go nicely?

Hi Reba, and welcome to the Wine Board. Both would work well. I would also consider a light pinot noir or one of the lighter Cru Beaujolais such as a 2000 Fleurie.

Thanks so much for your help. I think we will look for that 2000 Fleurie you mentioned. I am just learning about wine, my husband knows more than me but he couldn't think of a wine. So glad I stumbled onto this site!

Fresh tomatoes in April--I envy you.

Consider a rose from Provence or Sicily.

yeah, we probably won't see any real, fresh tomatoes until mid-July!

What about a sparkler from Italy.......??

Not an Asti to my way of thinking, but a Prosecco might work well.

The tomatoes were great, thanks everyone. We ended up having a 1999 Chateau de Paraza. Strange appetizer, plain tomatoes (we didn't even bother with the mozzarella!). I guess I'm lucky being in FL and able to have tomatoes so early in the year; it's my first tomato plant! LOL, a patio plant that has grown out of control and is no longer on my patio.
