1999 Easton, Fiddletown, Zinfandel ($25). Alcohol 14.8%. Had a half bottle of this tonight (true love is on medication) with broiled double thick lamb rib chops. Would have sworn I've posted on this one before, but it must have been the '98. This one comes across with a huge dose of sweet fruit on the nose and upfront. Gives an unusual combination of cassis like fruit, tobacco, and spices in a somewhat dry trip across the palate. Still is large and well structured enough finish splendidly. Look for it.

Other half of the bottle tonight with grillpanned porterhouse steak. Wonderful.

We had the '02 last night. It had come with the Fall Sampler. List price: $25. Tech data: alcohol 14.5%; pH 3.65; acidity 5.8 gm/ltr. The pH is somewhat high resulting in, you guessed it, that old jammy feeling.

Blackberries like you stole from that ole black bear all over the place. On your nose, upfront, and over to the palate. In the middle the fruit is accompanied by pepper, cloves, other spice and that hint of tobacco that tends to show up in this one. And yes there is that jammy complexity with smoooooth tannin thrown in. The finish lingers nicely.

The kids brought over a couple of boneless sirloins in Teriyaki marinade that we threw on the grill along with dogs for the grandkids. There were potato, macaroni, and toss salads, along with sliced Brandywine tomatoes and cucumber. The wine matched perfectly.

Happy Columbus, Discovers, or Canadian Thanksgiving Day.

Well we popped our "orphan" '01 on American Thanksgiving after have consumed the '02 on Canadian Thanksgiving; and this was not even planned.

The day didn't pan out the way we did plan. Our daughter didn't make it, and we had our very first Thanksgiving alone since we met 45 years ago.

It was still nice though. We limited the food to roast turkey, cornbread/chestnut stuffing cooked separately, and sliced Brandywine tomatoes.

The wine was incredible, absolutely at the top of its game. Not quite as jammy as the younger '02, but richly complex all the way through with a finish that wouldn't quit. I can tell its a good one when I have to arm wrestle true love for the last drop.
