- zenda2 - 05-19-2002 Picked this one up on sale (for $8), popped it today when some brisket, babyback ribs and steak kabob were coming hot off the smoker/grill. Not as 'rustic' as most Amador zin's I've tried. Dry farmed foothills fruit. Dark, spicy, coffee & black fruit notes, repeat-lots of fruit, and a nice, long finish. 13.5% alcohol, which is almost 'moderate' for Amador zin these days. Probably won't knock off your favorite Ridge or Rosenblum single vinyard, but a well put together wine and a great buy. Serious competition for Zins at a similar price point. And at this price...get some. Then get some more (GSM) If I were using Bucko's & WW's two rating scale, I'd say 88/90. - Bucko - 05-20-2002 My note on the 2000: 2000 Shenandoah Vineyards, Zinfandel, Special Reserve, Amador County, California, $10, 4,550 cases. Aromas speak of blackberry, cherry and a juniper/mint character that carries over to the palate. Brambly fruit and green peppercorns are noted on the long, dry finish. 85/87. - zenda2 - 05-20-2002 That sounds pretty good & not so far off on our notes...I s'pect that saving $2 via my sale price at this end of the price spectrum pushed my ratings a little higher. - Bucko - 05-20-2002 Different vintages. |
