Source: calatrasi.it/inglese/scheda_terrale.html - Innkeeper - 06-22-2004 Hi Gmtl; it is my understanding that the DNA of Zinfandel and Primitivo are identical. Was not able to raise that website. - Bucko - 06-22-2004 One and the same.... - Kcwhippet - 06-23-2004 gmtl, That Italian site is incorrect - Primitivo did not father Zinfandel. They are natural clones of a single variety, and both are identical to a grape called Crljenak. That grape has been grown in Croatia for probably more than a thousand years, having come most likely from either Greece or Albania. Primitivo came to Italy about 250 years ago, and Zinfandel came to the U.S. in the 1820's. - californiagirl - 06-23-2004 I was wondering when you'd say something KC. I remember reading about that several months ago in WS, and having quite a lengthy conversation with you about it! I'll try and search the site to see if I can find the archive. - californiagirl - 06-23-2004 Found it! www.winespectator.com/wine/daily/news/0,1145,1572,00.html [This message has been edited by californiagirl (edited 06-23-2004).] - californiagirl - 06-23-2004 Tried the link to double check and the site won't directly link to it.
