- hotwine - 11-15-2004 With the first beef stew of winter. Blast of zinberry on the nose and tongue-tip, more ripe fruit on the palate.... but lacking the complexity of the '02 that earned the WS92, and a disappointing finish. Suspect it will still get the Speculator's attention enough for a 90, but don't think it deserves that at this stage.... maybe with a year's bottle age, but maybe not. Pleasant enough, just not a bell-ringer. - winoweenie - 11-16-2004 Seems that the consensus of opinion is the 02 vintage is a killer and the 03 very iffy. All the juice we had from barrel seemed to indicate this.WW - wondersofwine - 11-16-2004 Thanks for the note. If they still have the 2002 in Charlotte I may snag a few bottles this weekend (I'm going to the Panthers-Arizona Cardinals game). I've really enjoyed the 2002. - hotwine - 04-25-2005 As predicted last Nov, the Speculator has given the '03 a 90; info is useful only in calibrating one's tastebuds. - hotwine - 04-28-2005 An additional note on this puppy.... LW let her last glass languish for a couple of hours after dinner, then decided she didn't want to finish it. Of course, I had to do the honors. Big surprise! Aeration had allowed it to morph into a totally different wine with a flavor profile much closer to the '02 vintage. Definitely worth remembering the next time I pull that one ... decant, decant. - Glass_A_Day - 04-28-2005 I agree. I open and pour these about two hours before dinner. Big diff. - TheEngineer - 04-28-2005 Thanks, I'll go look for another bottle to give this a second...third chance. |
