2001 Tobin James, James Gang Reserve, Paso Robles, Zinfandel ($28 Winery). Alcohol level is 15%. Gives ripe raspberries dipped in chocolate on the nose and up front. More superfruit join the jammy and intense complexity; along with smooooth tannin crossing the palate. The finish lingers seemingly forever. Not hot at all. As WW would say, it is at the top of its game. Meant to drink it late last year, but it still held everything until tonight.

Matched it with Flank Steak Teriyaki, and salad in blue cheese dressing, with candlelight and Jane Monheit’s “Come Dream With Me” in the background. What better way to spend a pre-superbowl evening.

2002 James Gang Reserve ($28 Winery). Alcohol level 15.8%. Tons-a-fruit, and resonable acid and stucture to go with all the alky. Therefore, no hot. Extremely nice with broiled chicken drumsticks in BBQ sauce. Add to that fresh corn on the cob, and fresh green beans off the farm. All adds up to a very nice Sunday night.
