Tried this tonight with oak-fired 16 oz. Charolais T-bones, baked spuds and mixed veggies. Yeow! A burst of sour cherries on the entry, screaming "'Way too young!" Let it stand in the Riedel bord. somms. for an hour and it made all the difference - sourness had resolved to luscious fruit with an undertone of the characteristic Blackstone oak and a nice, long finish. 14.1% alcohol. Think I gave about $12 for it at the discounter maybe six months ago.

Wow, the Napa for $12 is quite a deal! I always enjoyed the Blackstone and will look for some....can't wait for the 2001.

I'll check the price when visiting the discounter again this week. For some reason, I failed to enter it into the database. Dumbdumbdumb....

Had cooked up four steaks, so there were two for leftovers last night. Pulled a regular bottle of Blackstone (the CA label) from the '98 vintage, purchased in Aug 2000. That poor sucker had gone through the full cycle of temp and humidity fluctuations in the old cellar before the chiller was installed last June, and there just wasn't much left of it except dying fruit. Debra liked it - "More mature", she said. "Over the hill", said I. There's still one more bottle left; was planning to give it away, but if she likes it, that probably wouldn't be real smart....
