I bought a '97 bottle of Gabbiano Chianti Classico for 8 bucks. How is the quality on this wine and this vineyard? I am new to wines and know little about them and even less about Italian wines. Any information would be appreciated.

This is a good example of the "new" Chiantis. Enjoy it with your Italian pasta, veal, and even light beef dishes.

This is one of my favorite everyday drinkers I purchase by the case whenever it goes on sale. Definitely a great value, especially the 97'!

I opened the chianti tonight. I made a ratatouille Lasagna that was great. The wine was great with the dinner. It had a great finish and a nice color. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I plan to buy several more bottles since they are inexpensive and great.
Thanks for all the info!

Does anyone know what region and province the Gabbiano winery is in? This is mainly for my own records and desire to learn stuff like that. Thanks,

Piced up a bottle of plain ole Gabbiano Chianti ('04) the other day as the least worst Chianti in a local Supermarket for the proverbial $8. It was a decent midweek accompaniment for Wednesday night pasta. Nothing harsh or bothersome, nor really memorable about it.

Barnesy,

If that is Castelo di Gabbiano, they are located just south of Florence--Mercatale.

They've been around since the 12th century.

I've been waiting for that answer for six years! And finally, the mystery is solved.

I didn't notice the dates until you said that...

Where was I six years ago? Starting a business.

If it makes you feel better Barnesy, my business partner is on his own these days. Even a slacker can learn when it's time to get into gear
