- TheEngineer - 03-07-2008 This nebbiolo wants to be a barolo,... & years on and this thing is still a tannic monster. Must have been totally unapproachable on release. Dark dried fruits with a purfumey wood, tart high tone acidity, hint of saltiness, but the tannic and alcoholic finish is a bit abrupt. Feels like this could have gone on for a few more years before I killed it. I'll go back to this tomorrow. - TheEngineer - 03-10-2008 I stuck this in the back of the fridge a few days ago and pulled it out this morning to let it come up in temp. I poured mysefl a glass about 4 hours ago and I'm sipping it now for the first time today and wow, its come around. A Barberesco for $20. This is floral, perfumey, the fruit is still solid in front but some dried notes adn secondary notes and it is encapsulated with a 10 year old baroloesque feel to it. The nice part is that it is still a bit light on its feet. A good long persistence. Totally enjoyable esp at $19.99. I wish that I had some truffle oil and pasta right about now.... having finished that glass while I'm typing this, I poured myself a second glass. The time in the glass for the first glass must have helped out a bit because the second glass' tannins still have a lot of grip. Wow. I wish I had kept a few now. I have the 99 to go back to in a few years I guess. [This message has been edited by TheEngineer (edited 03-10-2008).] |
