2003 Valle Martello, Aprutium Alma Mater, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo ($8.99 Wine Expo). Alcohol level: 13%. We got two of these from Roberto along with two of their Cerasuolos for later this summer. He said it is so robustly flavored it “doesn’t matter a whit in the presence of a rich tomato sauceâ€, and that is exactly what we did. Matched with Gemelli in a thick, rich tomato sauce; sweet Italian sausages with fennel; and salad in raspberry/hazelnut dressing. Fantastic! One of the best Montes we’ve had.

Glad you enjoyed that Carl, that wine is made by one of the nicest families we do business with (four generations are involved) and is also a great value.
