(I posted this on the novice board too, but since they concern Italians...)

I was given/inherited 2 bottles of Italian wine from a friend who somehow acquired them years ago. I have no idea if I might expect them to be much good anymore, nor do I know what they offered when they were good. I'm truly a wine novice and, basically, have no idea what I've got on my hands. Any info. or advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

They are:

1) A 1983 Tavernelle Cabernet Sauvignon (Label reads "DELLA TOSCANA RED TABLE WINE, Estate Bottled by Villa Banfi Vineyards, Montalcino, Italia")

2) A 1982 Barolo. (Label reads: Dall'azienda agricola, Monfalletto BAROLO, denominarione di origine controllata e garantita, ANNATA 1982, imbottigliato all'origine da Paolo, Giovanni ed Enrico, CORDERO DE MONTEZEMOLO, Viticultori in La Morra --then becomes unreadable)

Anyway, that's probably more info. than you need, but I do appreciate your responses.

1) I don't know if Tavernelle 1983 will be still drinkable (I think NO)
It is usually (I am talkin'about last ten years +/-) a "blockbuster" Cab that whan gets on the market is already very mature in colour, nose and palate. Lots of oak !
Not elegant not "gracy" more potent...
But I have no experience of old vintages maybe You can have a nice surprise (?)

2)This Barolo can still have something to say if correctly stocked. 1982 was a "great" (so classified) vintage and the producer is enough reliable.
