2000 Sant’ Appiano, Cottaccio, Chianti Superiore (14.99 The Clown, Belfast). Alcohol 13%. Rich cherry and rose aroma on the nose, and more red cherry fruit with a hint of black current (a little Cab in there?) upfront. Densely complex and tart elixir with smooth tannin cross the palate, and the finish rings a few bells. We matched it with reheated Bistecca alla Pizzaiolla and spinach. Although the wine was a couple of dollars less expensive than the Rosso di Montalcino that we had with the Bistecca the first night; it was far superior. Highly recommended.
