Hi folks, I just sign up today for the forum although I've been following you guys from sometime now.

I just would like to ask you guys about an especific kind of wines made in Italy, the wine is from the MASI wineries and is called Valipolicella and Bardolino. Are those wines good? which wine you suggest the most for drinking without any companion (food)?

Hi Ronald, and welcome to the Wine Board. Am familiar with bigger wines from Masi such as their Amarone. If you can get these lighter reds by them, I would guess they would be better quality than we can normally get in the U.S. They are very light wines.

About Valpolicella and Bardolino produced by Masi I want to remember the grapes involved in their production which are more or less the same: Corvina, Molinara & Rondinella. They are very typical from the Valpolicella Area and are also used in the making of blockbuster wines such as the famous Amarone (dry) and traditional Recioto della Valpocella (sweet dessert wine). According to Innkeeper Bardolino and Valpolicella are very light red wines and I perfectly agree! So they are the ideal companion to drink during a meal, to drink alone much more better and interesting the more expensive Amarone,king of what we call in Italy "wines for meditation".

There is another option for a quaffing wine of this type. It is called Vino Di Ripasso Valpolicella. It is made by taking once fermented Valpolicella and putting it through a second fermentation on the pomace of Amarone. It is priced at around one third the price of Amarone, and as such represents a great value in a bigger wine.

Don't know if Masi makes one. There are many producers. At this time they are just beginning to be readily available in the U.S. Don't know if it is possible to find in Venezuela, but it would be well worth asking for.
