2000 Selia & Mosca, La Cala, Vermentino Di Sardegna ($10.99 local purchase). Strong aromas of citrus and pineapple combine upfront with gingery spicy bouquet to fly across ones palate with medium body and great acidity. The finish lingered and lingered, causing me to armwrestle Mother for the remains of the bottle. It matched perfectly with chicken breast sauteed in OO with herbs and garlic. Deglazed the pan with a little dry vermouth for a simple sauce. Served with a salad tossed in Italian vinaigrette. Now, my marching orders are to remember where I got it and get more. If you can find it, go for it. I understand that Antinori's Vermentino (at $18) is sensational and is probably more widely distributed. This is one of those wines that you need to enjoy while it is still inexpensive. There are only so many hecacres on Sardinia, and everyone I know is talking about Vermentino.

Had a bottle of this stuff last night with what we call a "melt"--onions, garlic, red peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, and tomatoes, cooked long and slow with lemon juice until everything blends together, served over pasta with some pesto mixed in. Not strong on texture but delicious and refreshing. And because we were celebrating my wife's acceptance into grad school, a little appetizer of simply sauteed shrimp. This wine and food was also a good way to celebrate the welcome reprieve of a truly spring-like day. All of it significantly overshadowed by the spectacle of our President's posturing adding another nail in the coffin of international cooperation and goodwill, and the prospect of death for many people just around the corner. I fear for all of us. Apologies to those who love him.

It was a good wine, IK. Maybe I should move to Sardegna.
