Been getting re-acquainted with Valpolicelli. I'll bet these are among the best reds for food.

Oh, and thanks Fabio, for that Italian DOC wine site--indispensable.

If I get to Is-Wine over Memorial Day weekend, I want to buy a Valpolicella to take back to North Carolina. You can screen them for me Foodie and make a recommendation.

You probably know this wine already but, if you're feeling spendy, try the only single-varietal Corvina imported to the US, the Allegrini La Poja, about $75, sometime. Holy Cow, what a mammoth, delicious, elegant thing! I got a bottle for my birthday in '02, from my girlfriend who is now my fiancee, largely because of the La Poja. (Just kidding...I think...)

As a learning experience about Corvina it's fascinating. As a purely hedonistic experience, it's even better.
