2001 BV Coastal, California, Pinot Noir ($8.99 Belfast Coop). The day I bought this about a month or so ago, the wine manager of the Coop told me the next shipment was going to be $3 higher. Sure enough, last week I saw it in another store for $11.99! Wow!

This bottling was recommended by a couple of the parts of the media I subscribe to, which is why I bought it. They were accurate in their descriptions. It is a much better wine at $9 than at $12. It hits you upfront with black cherries (as opposed to red ones) on the nose and tongue tip. More fruit, some spice, and halfway decent complexity cross the palate along with perfectly smooth tannin. All followed with a quite pleasant finish. We matched it with leftover ham loaf and spinach.

At $9 I would go out and get more, and should have. But, at the current price there is much more competition. The bottom line is, that this is a very nice wine.

thanks for being first, IK! Bought a bottle of this but haven't had time to try it. Glad to know it was worth the money! WD

You ought to look for another "BV" at twice the price - Buena Vista's Pinot Noir is a very nice Carneros bottling at around $16.
