Santa Barbara County, CA Grapes from Santa Maria Valley
14.9% alcohol Label says the Limited Series represents their finest efforts bringing [us] wines of the highest quality and distinction. I purchased this wine at a tasting room in Los Olivos, CA on my trip to Santa Barbara County last October.

Deep crimson color; semi-transparent. Dark plummy nose with some kirsch. On the palate mixes kirsch liqueur with an herbal element and sweet fruit with an acidic tang. Interesting but maybe a little disjointed. I enjoyed it more the second day when it melded a bit and smoothed out. Should maybe be decanted for an hour but still served slightly chilled. I drank it with fried chicken and a tossed salad. I would purchase again given the opportunity but allow more aeration before drinking it.

It was a Gehrs wine that got Anne and me into wine. A few of them are among our all-time favorite wines. We simply loved the '99, '00, and '01. After that, unfortunately, we haven't had anything. I used to special order them every year, but GA has weird laws about distribution. Basically, if you fire your distributer, you have to wait some absurd amount of time, like 7 years, before you can get new distribution into the state. So, I look forward to getting back to drinking them!
