- hotwine - 02-15-2006 Costco's private label, 1000 cases produced by Jean-Jacques Girard of Savigny-Les-Beaune, Cote d'Or. Excellent clarity, nose of bright raspberries on a soft forest floor; fine structure on the palate of raspberries and dried strawberries; lingering finish. Excellent food wine, paired with cedar plank salmon grilled over oak with oven-roasted artichoke hearts, asparagus and green beans; dessert of pound cake topped with raspberries. 13% alc/vol and about $20. Much better than expected. Will go again tonight with leftovers. - wondersofwine - 02-15-2006 Some of my favorite foods there--artichokes, asparagus, etc. I like raspberries but my sister adores them. Sounds like a nice meal. Oh and plank salmon is the absolute best! [This message has been edited by wondersofwine (edited 02-15-2006).] - hotwine - 02-16-2006 Had a repeat last night. Failed to mention the veggies included chopped garlic and was drizzled with EVOO and S&P and roasted at 350F for about 15 mins. Seriously good stuff! The wine is definitely a winner for us.... picked up some more yesterday. - TheEngineer - 02-16-2006 #@#%@#$%@ Wished MA was not so @#$@#@ with large stores like that selling wine.... KC had informed us earlier that only three stores per chain were allowed to sell wine. - Thomas - 02-16-2006 Eng, Look here: http://www.eyewitnessnewstv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4509440&nav=F2DO - TheEngineer - 02-16-2006 YeeeeHah! Nice..... Thanks foodie. However, I'm assuming that the veto still includes the upper limit on the production size of the winery? If so, then a good start, but need to remove the rest of the restraints! Thanks again Foodie! Off to go searching to see which wineries have already added this to their sites and will ship to MA!! - wdonovan - 02-20-2006 Is Savigny considered Cote d'Or? I thought it was over the hill to the west, far from the east-facing 'golden slopes'. There are some great bargains there, also in Mercurey which I think is nearby. I thought the bargains were because these were not considered Cote d'Or. |
