Stopped in one of my fav wine shops this afternoon and was "forced" into tasting several wines. The '99 Sterling Reserve Pinot was a big winner. Burgundian in style. Big and complex with deep flavors of dark cherry and mature dark fruit and a big nose of violet and vanilla. This was a satisfying and balanced pinot that the rep sez would retail about $24, 13.5%alc/vol. (informal notes and I think I might have been seduced!)

Drew, did you happen to notice the appellation? Was it Napa, RRV, Carneros, Santa Lucia Highlands, etc?

Have tasted this guy three times, and keep coming away a bit more excited each time. Fruit is Carneros, if memory is working. But what I remenber most is the texture up front and then throughout. Found some spice, against big ripe smokey dark bing fruit. Guess will have to drink a whole bottle to see what else. Darn nice!

IK, the rep said Napa.

It is Napa fruit. Sterling owns the vineyard and it is just now coming back from the replanting. WW
