I received a bottle of the 1986 Chateau Beychevelle St.-Julien as gift but don't know when I should drink. I've found ratings for 1989 in WS (rated 93; drink after 2008) -- and I've seen WS ratings on various vintages in the 1990s (lower ratings and "drink now" recommendations). I don't want to drink too soon -- or too late! Anyone knowing the rating and timing for drinking would be appreciated.

Welcome ColoradoRed, 86' was a classic vintage for Bordeaux and your wine was rated 93 points by WS. "Remarkably complex with rich, concentrated, tannic currant, spice and anise flavors, wrapped in smoky, cedary oak that gets tastier with every sip. It`s best to wait until this one can fully develop, in 1997 or `98." Others on this board can comment on it's drink or hold status.
