My first real 2003 really more to try the vintage than anything else.

It was a bit more reserved than I thought the 2003's was going to be. Maybe I thought that it would be like a Australian Shiraz thing..... but it was not. Certainly on popping the cork there was a great sent of black fruits.

On the palate, good levels of dark fruit, very forward for a bordeaux but not jammy at all. Maybe it's just this one. Medium to full bodied, nicely controlled wood and good fine tannins for a long pleasant finish. Some tea and coco and a bit hot at the end. Needs a bit of time but very approachable now if you don't mind the tannins (was not like the tannic wines of 2000 though). Acidity appeared to be a bit low but still evident....lookss to have a bit of a structure to perhaps last a bit of time.....

Thanks for the report. I think I only ordered two bottles of 2003 Bordeaux--either the Leoville Poyferre or Leoville Barton. Haven't taken possession yet.
