I have they chance to purchase some 1996 Bordeaux. The three Chateau's (Rausan-Segla, Leoville-Barton, or Pichon-Longueville-Baron) all of which are at some level of Cru Classe. The price of these three are relatively the same. Does anyone have information on which of these will age the best? In your opinion which of these three is better?

Interesting question......

Of the three wines, my personal prediction is that Leoville Barton will be the best.

First off, '96 was clearly a "St. Julien" vintage. The wines of St. Julien have the best concentration and the finest, ripest tannins. I own the wine and have enjoyed it and believe that it will be maturing and improving for at least 15 years, maybe longer. It should be noted however that St. Julien doesn't have a particularly good reputation for ageing long and well. However, the '94 and '96 seem break that mold.....and possibly the '95.

Secondly, the Rausan-Segla will be a good wine and will certainly improve. But, '95 was the vintage for the Margaux region. If you could get your hands on some '86 and some '95 Rausan, don't hesitate, especially '95. This wine will, IMO, be second best.

Pichon Baron will also be a good wine and will need some time to come together. And to your point, a 2nd growth from Pauillac will be wonderful. But I think the tannins will be a bit chunkier and more awkward initially.

Hope this helps.
