Since the oaky discussion under the "98 Chat. St. Jean SB, La Petite Etoile, Foul or Fabulous?" thread disappeared during the April 2 massacre, we thought we might bring it up here. Remembering a disparaging post about subject wine, and since we were generally Forest Glen fans, we picked up subject wine yesterday, and had it tonight. Paired it with chicken breasts broasted with rosemary, garlic, peppers, and shallots. The wine married nicely with the food, but when finishing up the bottle afterward, we had a different reaction. Mrs Innkeeper, who has a more finely tuned palate than moi asked, "What kind of wine is this?" So, whomever made the observation that it tasted more like a campfire than a chardonnay, was right. Sorry Forest Glen.

Ed Moody usually turns out tasty wines at a fair price. I don't remember this wine off-hand, but I all too often find CA Chards much too oaky for my palate.
