- Larriet - 11-17-2001 My wife and I had dinner in Atlanta last week and had a wonderful Chardonnay. The waiter wrote down the name but it's hard to read. We're looking for the wine and cannot find it. It looks like "Montagny". Is this the correct name and where can we find it? Thanks - Innkeeper - 11-17-2001 Could be Monterey Vineyard. It goes for around $10 or $11 retail. So, if you paid $18 or $20 in a restaurant, that could be it. It is widely available. If you paid $60 or $70 for it, it could be Martinelli. It is not so widely available. - Larriet - 11-17-2001 I think I found it at http://www.samswine.com. It's "Hubert Lamy Chassagne-Montrachet "Grande Montaigne 1er Cru" 750ml" at $30 a bottle. Unfortunately they cannot ship to Florida. If anybody know where I can order or purchase some please let me know. Thanks - Larriet - 11-17-2001 Or it could be Chateau De La Guiche Montagny at $20. I found it at http://www.estatewinesintl.com. I'll see if I can order that one. - Innkeeper - 11-17-2001 Ye be better sleuth than me. - ddf68 - 11-20-2001 Larriet, Montagny is a village in the Cotes de Chalonnaise (southern Burgundy, wedged in between the Macon and the Cote D'Or). Wines made in Montagny will typically be from Chardonnay but the word Chardonnay will not typically appear on the bottle. Instead, the bottle will be labelled Montagny and may also include the name of the vineyard (there are dozens of premier cru vineyards in Montagny). I haven't seen a lot of Montagny but one that seems common is the Louis Latour Montagny "Grand Roche". If you go to www.winesearcher.com and type in Montagny you will find a couple dozen wines from Montagny. ddf [This message has been edited by ddf68 (edited 11-20-2001).] - wondersofwine - 11-27-2001 Montagny and Rully were mentioned in one article as more reasonably priced Chardonnay sources in France. I bought a Rully while in Charlotte, NC but haven't tried it yet. Will report on it in the next couple of weeks. |
