- Innkeeper - 10-03-2002 When we where getting ready to go a lobsterbake this summer with some of our former military friends and spouses, they wanted to know what wine to bring. I told them to go our local coop and get some Alpha Domus, Hawks Bay, SB. Well one came back with their 2001 North Island, Chardonnay. With no more information on the front of the bottle, I quickly assumed (yeah I know!) it was an oak bomb, and replaced it with another Kiwi SB from our cellar. So they just left it here. Tonight, after pigging out at a friend's place in a late lunch, we decided to just have wine and cheese. So, we unwrapped a nice Wisconsin sheep cheese, and popped the Alpha Domus Chardonnay with it. After the first sip, I told Mother WOW! I couldn't detect much oak in it, and it was a wonderful, even powerful wine; and it matched perfectly with the cheese. So, I turned the bottle around and found these words, "The dry unwooded style accentuates the passionfruit, fig and citrus flavors....." Couldn't have said it better myself. Look for it. $13. - Innkeeper - 02-07-2003 Had another tonight with grillpanned pork chops. Excellent! |
