- bvampslyr - 11-10-2001 Wow! This stuff rocks. Has anyone tried it? Similar to Montelena 94. What a surprise. - winoweenie - 11-11-2001 Hi Bvampsuylr and welcome to the board. ZD is one of the premier winerys producing in Calif.I think I posted on the 93 last year. If you can get lucky and find the 97 it is one of the best wines ptoduced in that stellar vintage. WW - bvampslyr - 11-11-2001 WW, Thanks for the ref. I know 97 is a stellar year. I loaded up on plenty of the premier Cal cabs including Phelps Insignia,Chateau Montelena, Silver Oak (Napa and AV), but the 93 ZD for the price I paid for the reserve is right up there with the so called top cabs but with a budget price in an "off" year. Any other "sleepers" out there for the 98 crop? Buffy - winoweenie - 11-11-2001 Lots of super reserves that are released after the vintage. I particularly like the Ferrari-Carano Tresor, The Simi Reserves, and the Ch St. Jean Reserves. These three always seem to be in the top 10% in quality of every vintage. Add Arrowood Reserve and the Pride Claret and you can look forward to some super slurpin'. Must admit that the lil'darlins' have become a little pricy, but unlike the Buck-flint, I still feel they are worth the bucks. Some new 97's that are new to market are in my tasting posts earlier.
